By Wollongong Photographer Dejana CubrilovicOn the weekend I visited my local video store, Leading Edge Dapto. I couldn’t help but feel a little nostalgic. Memories came flooding back from the good old days.
Growing up in the 80’s/90’s meant enjoying the small things in life. Getting excited about our little adventure to our local video store. The thrill we would get in pursuit of the new release. You had to place your name on the waiting list and sit by your home phone for them to call you to tell you it’s yours. Mind you, the wait for the latest release could sometimes take up to 7 days. I still remember the hype, the excitement. I would hop on to the back of my brother’s bike, he would double me on his bike pegs and it was game on. We would rush down to the local video store and hire the latest release that we have been waiting for all week. We would then look around for another 2 movies (that was the going deal back then, one new release and two three day hires for $7.99). Next door to the video store was our favourite milk bar, called Skippies. We would get $2 worth of hot chips, which was a huge serving and would come wrapped in newspaper. We would tear the top of the newspaper and create a little hole, enough for our little fingers to fit through and eat the hot chips on the way home. My nostalgia has brought a tear to my eye but a smile to my face. It has inspired me to take some shots at my local video store so I can look back and hold onto this beautiful memory.
