The Most Beautiful Secret He Ever Planned
There are moments I get to witness as a photographer that stay with me long after I pack up my gear. Gabriel and Elizah’s surprise proposal in Wollongong was one of those moments — raw, heartfelt, and unforgettable.
When Gabriel first contacted me, I could immediately feel the love and excitement in his voice. He told me he wanted to propose to Elizah, and he wanted it to be a complete surprise. His plan? To tell her they were simply going for a walk before dinner. Casual. Unassuming. Perfect.
But what truly moved me was how much thought he had put into every single detail.
Gabriel had secretly bought Elizah the dress she wore that day. He also brought along a pair of heels for her to change into just before the big moment. It wasn’t just about proposing — it was about making her feel cherished and beautiful in a way only he could.
I arrived early at a quiet coastal lookout, Sea Cliff bridge lookout, and was guided to the secret spot by Gabriel's friend Sam. As they approached, I blended in, pretending to be just another landscape photographer. My heart was racing right along with his.
When they reached the edge of the lookout, Gabriel gently took her hands. He looked at her like she was the only person in the world. And then — he dropped to one knee.
I’ll never forget the look on Elizah’s face. Shock, joy, and tears all at once. She hadn’t seen it coming — but it was everything she had ever hoped for. Her “yes” was full of laughter and emotion, and I was lucky enough to capture every second of it.
These are the moments I live for. The quiet, powerful beginnings of forever.
Gabriel and Elizah, thank you for trusting me to tell your story through my lens. It was an honour to witness such genuine love, and I hope these photographs help you relive that beautiful evening for years to come.
With love,
Dejana Cubrilovic
